If you’ve ever wanted to live near the beach, Fort Myers is definitely worth another look. The city recently ranked near the top of the list when it comes to “The Best Places to Live Near the Beach in the U.S.”.
As for locations near the beach, Fort Myers came in at an admirable number six. The fast-growing city sits along the Caloosahatchee River, but exists just a short drive away from nearby Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral and the natural beauty of Sanibel Island. The city grew more than 14-percent between 2012 and 2016 alone.
The new beach ranking comes from U.S. News & World Report, which assembled the list of 20 based on how coastal spots ranked in regards to its much larger list of the “Best Places to Live”. That ranking of the nation’s 125 most populous metros took into account things like the job market and affordability, plus access to quality health care and the commute.
In the larger list Fort Myers came in at number 41. Analysts praised the city for its location along the river, its charming downtown area, plus its many art galleries, museums, parks and festivals.
U.S. News pointed out the location makes it easy to enjoy boating, kayaking, fishing and plentiful other outdoor recreation. While home prices are on the rise in Fort Myers, the majority of the year is complimented by sunshine and blue skies, which makes for a pleasant environment to call home.
Other Florida cities to make the list of top locations near the beach included Melbourne at number one and Sarasota at number three. Jacksonville and Pensacola made it in the top ten.
A past ranking by U.S. News & World Report additionally put Fort Myers in the number two spot when it came to the “Best Places to Retire”.
