Bike paths are everywhere in Sanibel, which on November 18 received the Silver Bicycle Friendly Community award by The League of American Bicyclists. How did the city of Sanibel celebrate this latest honor? By opening a new bike trail. Only 3 other communities in Florida hold this prestigious designation.

Sanibel Recognized as Bike-Friendly Community

Bicycling is a terrific way to slow down and explore Sanibel Island. Cyclists who ride from Fort Myers to Sanibel will travel across 3 bridges that connect man-made islands. Bikes are allowed on the bridges, and pay no toll. On the Causeway, it’s a 2.8-mile ride to and from the beaches, shops and restaurants of Sanibel.

Sanibel Bike Path Offers Healthy Fun

With high gas prices across the nation, sales of new bicycles have nearly doubled for some Fort Myers retailers. In addition to being a good (and healthy) way to get around the area, the bike-trail system in Fort Myers is being enjoyed by bike enthusiasts for commuting and recreational use.
