Sometimes referred to as the “Venice of America”, the canals of Cape Coral come with either freshwater or saltwater, meaning they either have Gulf access or are connected to a network of basins and lakes that provide for superb freshwater fishing.
About half of Cape Coral lots are waterfront, on a canal, the Caloosahatchee River or a lake. Additionally, around half of the community’s hundreds of miles of canals provide indirect or even direct boating access to the Gulf, via Matlacha Pass or the river. The run to open Gulf of Mexico water is the shortest here, plus the canals are deep and wide. This is near Tarpon Point Marina and Cape Harbour, also the site of boat rentals, wet and dry slips, restaurants and a marina.
Many homeowners, though, choose to dock their boats behind their homes. The numerous canals make this possible, with several affordable properties including direct sailboat access. As the canals are often 80-feet wide or larger, it makes it possible to house large boats just steps from your back door.
