Baseball great Jose Contreras is hoping his former vacation home strikes a ‘home run’ with a new buyer. Contreras reportedly just put his Alva, Florida home up for sale, with the opportunity for a new buyer to hit it out of the park.
The former MLB pitcher first purchased the home about a decade ago for $1.8 million. The 6,500 square foot home is now up for sale for $2 million. The price affords three-acres of private property, nestled along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River.
The home includes 200 feet of desirable river frontage, plus a private dock with a boat and Jet Ski lift, as well as Gulf access. Constructed in the late 1990s, the home offers an eat-in kitchen with walls of windows overlooking the water. In addition, the main living area also opens up to outdoor space including a private swimming pool and lanai.
Additionally the home offers a theater, gym, office, plus an outdoor kitchen with a gazebo and fireplace, ideal for extra living and entertaining space. Other highlights of the home include the game room plus separate in-law quarters, four guest suites and a formal dining room.
As well, the gourmet kitchen of the home offers up dual sub-zero refrigerators and double ovens, as well as granite countertops. Towering trees additionally compliment the well-landscaped grounds, while a pond adds to the peacefulness of the home’s setting.
Contreras once played for the Cuban national team before defecting from his country and signing with the New York Yankees. He later landed with the Chicago White Sox and purchased the Alva vacation home to use during the off-season.
He’s also involved himself in other ways in the local community, recently volunteering his expertise to help young players learn the sport of baseball through the Fort Myers American Little League.
