If you’re searching for a great place for a vacation home, Cape Coral and Fort Myers should top your list. Both were just named as top vacation home destinations, courtesy of Business Insider and Zillow.
Cape Coral came in at number four on the list, followed by Fort Myers at number five. Analysts looked at cities with at least 65,000 residents, then compared the total number of homes in the city to the city’s supply of vacation homes.
As for Cape Coral, nearly 16-percent of all homes in the city are considered vacation homes. That equates to around 13,000 vacation homes out of a total of 86,000 homes in Cape Coral.
In nearby Fort Myers you’ll find about 13-percent of the city’s housing stock consists of vacation homes. That’s more than 5,200 vacation homes in Fort Myers out of a total of around 39,000 homes.
The ranking probably isn’t too surprising when you consider that both locations are top vacation destinations. Last year TripAdvisor put out its list of the “20 Best Places to Vacation in Florida”, and Cape Coral and Fort Myers easily made the list.
Fort Myers, in particular, was praised for its sites and attractions including the historic Edison and Ford Winter Estates. As for Cape Coral, TripAdvisor highlighted the city’s Sun Splash Family Waterpark and Coral Oaks Golf Course for recreation.
Of course, area beaches cannot be overlooked either, nor can the many options in upscale shopping, dining and the arts. Vacation properties provide an ideal starting off point for many to explore all of the offerings of the area.
As for Business Insider’s list of the top vacation home destinations, the only locations to rank higher than Cape Coral and Fort Myers on the latest list were the Florida destinations of Miami Beach, Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
