While some come to Florida for its beaches and watersports, others are attracted by the chance to play on one of its numerous golf courses. While there are plentiful of admirable private courses for golfers to consider, some of the best public golf courses in the entire state are located in the Fort Myers area.

San Carlos Golf Club

San Carlos Golf Club features an 18-hole course originally designed in the early 1970s. The Fort Myers club also features a putting green, an aqua driving range and a bunker practice area. The course is actually a semi-private course, so everyone is welcome, but members receive priority tee-times and play at a discounted rate.

Magnolia Landing

Located in North Fort Myers, the 18-hole, Magnolia Landing golf course winds through pine and oak forests. Open to the public and to members, the golf course is another top-rated course in the city.

Eastwood Golf Course

Eastwood Golf Course is owned and operated by the City of Fort Myers. This 18-hole golf course is said to be fun, affordable and challenging. The Province Park gated community borders this course

Old Corkscrew Golf Club

Don’t let the name fool you, Old Corkscrew Golf Club is actually one of the youngest courses in the area. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and open to the public, the golf club actually sits in nearby Estero. It’s considered, however, to be one of the state’s nicest golf courses and was previously ranked as the number one course in Southwest Florida by Golf Magazine.

Tiburon Golf Club

Routinely ranked one of the state’s top golf facilities, Tiburon Golf Club offers not one, but two Greg Norman designed, semi-private courses in Naples. Both of the 18-hole courses are challenging for golfers. Each December, the Black Course brings in the pros for the PGA Tour’s QBE Shootout, but golfers at Tiburon also have the option of playing the Gold Course.
