With a newly remodeled convention center to promote and a renovated hotel on the horizon, the future is certainly looking bright for the Fort Myers River District. As one of the most popular destinations in the city already, new development will likely only add to its appeal.

One of the latest additions to the River District is the Caloosa Sound Convention Center. Crews recently renovated the former Harborside Events Center and remade it into a new and exciting Fort Myers venue.

Caloosa Sound sits just adjacent from a new Marriott-branded hotel, which opened last September. It’s hoped after the pandemic ends, the newly remodeled convention center and the new Luminary Hotel will together help bring in larger conventions and more people to the River District.

Instead of the city, an events team from The Luminary is now taking care of event bookings and sales at the Caloosa. While Harborside often hosted smaller events, it’s hoped the remodeling project will help bring in larger events in the future.

Yet another property in Downtown Fort Myers is being transformed into an upscale hotel. The existing Hotel Indigo is being converted into a high-end Hilton hotel.

The property is part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection. When finished, the eight-story property will have undergone a full, top-to-bottom conversion. While the project progresses, the hotel is still open to guests. Crews are going floor-by-floor in phases.

While the current hotel has 72 guest rooms, the new hotel will offer 96 guest suites. It will also include a renovated rooftop swimming pool and bar, a new lobby bar and a new commercial kitchen.

The popular Fort Myers River District is already home to several unique dining options, live music and the arts. The area also hosts a weekly farmers market, along with monthly music and art walks.
