From its beaches to its weather to its beautiful homes, locals know Florida checks off all the boxes. Now, it seems the state is getting credit for all of those reasons and more.

U.S. News & World Report recently released a list of the “Best States in the US”, and this year Florida makes it into the top 10. The state took the number 10 spot for the year, which is up three spots from 2019.

The website looked at three years of data supplied by annual surveys of tens of thousands of people. All were asked to rank their states in terms of eight different categories.

They looked at education, infrastructure, the economy and healthcare. Participants also considered things like the natural environment, crime, fiscal stability and opportunity.

With a population of more than 21-million people, Florida is the third most populous state in the nation. Tourism is big of course in Florida, as the state welcomes in an estimated 100 million visitors each and every year.

Many people are drawn to the state for its world-class amusement parks and its beaches. Florida boasts nearly 1,200 miles of coastline.

Retirees are also drawn to Florida because it’s one of the few states without a personal income tax. Of course, younger people sometimes come to Florida to attend one of its many universities and colleges, including the University of Florida, Florida State and the University of Miami.

The state ranked extremely high in education in the survey. It took third place for that category.

Florida has a more than 86-percent high school graduation rate, which is slightly higher than the national average. The state ranked number eight for fiscal stability.

The lowest ranking was for opportunity, which included things like economic opportunity and affordability. The State of Washington took first place in the US News ranking, while Louisiana came in last.
